5th IFIP Summer School on Software Technology and the Warm Up Workshop for ACM/IEEE ICSE 2010
Ocean View Hotel, Strand, Cape Town South Africa
30 March - 3 April 2009
"International tutorials at local prices"
The ISS has become a hugely successful Summer School supported by IFIP, the NRF and Microsoft Research, and organised by the University of Pretoria. This year, the school has the advantage of running with the ICSE 2010 Warm Up Workshop, a special event that prepares local students and researchers for participation in the flagship conference in Software Engineering. ICSE 2010 will be held in Cape Town at the International Convention Centre 2-8 May 2010. the Conference encompasses a technical program, tutorials, workshops, and demonstrations and the Warm Up Workshop (pronounced WUP) will give new and prospective ICSE participants insight into how ICSE works and how they can best engage and contribute.
The role of the ISS is to bring to Africa the best of international speakers, and to create for one week a collegial environment, where participants and speakers live together and learn from each other. Tutorials are formal, classroom style, but there is a lot of time for interaction, and activities such as sports, quizzes, winetastings and braais are part of the experience. The secret of success of the ISS is to have world class presenters, and 2009 is no exception.
